Tabifier and Sliding Tabs

I have been looking into adding a tab style design to my website and have been doing a bit of research into ways of achieving this through a combination of html, css and javascript. Two very interesting sites I have come across are

http://www.barelyfitz.com/projects/tabber/

http://creativepony.com/journal/scripts/sliding-tabs/

The first link is to a project called tabifier which is a very clean and simple implementation of tabs. It is dead simple to use and is very easily customizable. The second link is a bit more interesting though. It creates a similar interface however when you click on one of the tabs the content area slides to the corresponding content instead of just changing. It creates a really nice look which is similar to the design of the Coda website http://www.panic.com/coda/.

Hmmmm, decisions decisions! I think well used animation is nice in that it reduces the mental load on users, especially those who don't use computers much. In Sliding Tabs the user is very clearly shown visually where the content is going, and how they can get back there as soon as they engage the widget.

The lighter tabbing scripts have the benefit of loading faster though, which, depending on your audience, might be more important (for instance, in mobile uses, or dialup users). You can even do tabs using nothing but plain old CSS if you know how, but these can have very poor support of legacy browsers. And of course, you can do tabs server side (well maybe not if you're using blogger as the host..)
